Saudi Arabia's smart city, smart utility, connected mobility and industrial digitisation programmes depend on hundreds of thousands of field-deployed devices. They sit in roadside cabinets, on rooftops, in yards, in vehicles and in unconditioned industrial spaces.
Hardware specified for temperate climates does not survive Gulf conditions. Enclosure temperatures routinely exceed the ambient rating of commercial-grade electronics. Dust ingress, thermal cycling and sustained high-temperature operation are the normal operating environment here, not the stress case.
Devices deployed at scale are not judged on unit price. They are judged on failure rate across a ten-thousand-unit fleet in year three.
